Chitrangada Singh Biography
Chitrangada Singh (born 28 March 1976) is an Indian film actress. She is best known for starring in the Sudhir Mishra's 2003 film Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. She is married to Indian golfer Jyoti Randhawa.Chitrangada Singh was born in Meerut to an Indian Army officer. She was named after Chitrāngadā, a character in the Mahabharata, by her mother. As a girl, she was known for looking like the late actress, Smita Patil. When she was a Class IX student, she was approached by a filmmaker to play the young Smita Patil, in a documentary on the actor. She received training in Kathak (a classical dance) and enjoyed acting. She graduated from Lady Irwin College, New Delhi in 1997.
Chitrangada Singh started her career as a model appearing in TV commercials and music videos and later plunged into films. Her father was an officer in the Indian army and her mother, a homemaker. Chitrangada’s brother Digvijay Singh is a professional golfer and plays on the Professional Golf Tour of India and the Asian Tour. Chitrangada Singh married golfer Jyoti Randhawa who is the third-highest Indian in the world rankings. The couple is blessed with a son.
"You have outdone Smita Patil," said Shekhar Kapur, when he saw Chitrangda Singh's performance in her debut movie Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2003). And he is not the only one. Time and again Chitrangda has been compared to the legendary Smita Patil.
Chitrangda began her career as a model prior to making the transition to the silver screen. Chitrangda also acted in the 2005 film Kal: Yesterday and Tomorrow (2005). She took a break from acting from 2005 to 2008 after her marriage to Indian golfer Jyoti Randhawa. She made her film acting comeback with the leading role opposite Sanjay Suri in the film Sorry Bhai! (2008) Her recent release was Sudhir Mishra's Yeh Saali Zindagi (2011).

She took a break from acting from 2005 to 2008.In 2008, she made her comeback with the leading role opposite Sanjay Suri in the director Onir's romantic-comedy, Sorry Bhai! (2008).Its release over the weekend of the Mumbai terror attacks proved disastrous at the box office.
Chitrangda Singh is a model and has worked for brands like ICICI Bank and Alukkas Jewelry. Digvijay Singh, a golfer, is her brother.

Chitrangada Singh is known to resemble the veteran Indian actress late Smita Patil. In fact when she was a young girl, she was offered to portray the character of young Smita Patil in a documentary. Chitrangada Singh is passionate about theatre and is well trained in Kathak.
After completing her education, Chitrangada entered the glamorous world of modeling and was seen in print advertisements and TV commercials for ICICI bank and Alukkas Jewellery. She next appeared in a couple of music videos including Gulzar’s ‘Sunset Point’. She was spotted by ace filmmaker Sudhir Mishra’s production manager in Abhijeet’s music video. Eventually she made her cinematic debut in Sudhir Mishra’s ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ wherein she played the female lead alongside Kay Kay Menon and Shiny Ahuja. The film was set in seventies against the backdrop of the Indian Emergency. ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ was screened at a number of film festivals at different places including Turkey, Estonia, Florence, Berlin, Edinburgh, Washington, Goa, Bradford, Manchester, Los Angeles, Dallas, and California
However the film could not do well at the box office due to ita paraalel cinema subject, it received immense critical appreciation. The film won the Filmfare award in the Best Story category and Best Debut Award for Shiny Ahuja’s impactful performance. Chitrangada Singh was next seen in ‘Kal: Yesterday and Tomorrow’ alongside Shiny Ahuja. After taking a break of three years, she appeared as the female lead in Onir’s ‘Sorry Bhai’. A romantic comedy ‘Sorry Bhai’ also starred Sanjay Suri, Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and Shabana Azmi. The director of the film, Onir is known for his acclaimed films like ‘My Brother Nikhil’ and ‘Bas Ek Pal’. It was rumored that she would perform an item dance sequence in ‘Tera Kya Hoga Johnny’, that she later denied.
She is presently acting for commercial advertisements for Aliva snacks, Taj Mahal tea and Garnier.

Chitrangada is currently working on a couple of projects including Sudhir Mishra’s ‘Dhruv’, ‘Saali Zindagi’and Navdeep Singh’s ‘Basra’. Chitrangada plays a femme fatale of politics and the underworld in‘Dhruv’ also starring Kareena Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar and Raahul Singh. PVR Pictures and Abhay Deol’s production venture ‘Basra’ stars Abhay Deol, Chitrangada Singh, Nikhil Dwivedi, Shahana Goswami and Soniya Mehra in leading roles.
She is also expected to be seen in Rohit Dhawan's directorial debut 'Desi Boys' – her first mainstream masala Hindi film. The film also features Bollywood khiladi Akhsay Kumar and John Abraham in lead roles.
Chitrangada Singh was recently seen in a number of TV commercials including Garnier, Aliva alongside actor Jimmy Shergill and model Sahil Shroff and lately the Taj ad with Saif Ali Khan. Chitrangada Singh was ranked at number 12 in the list of "most desirable women of 2009" by Zoom. She was honored by FICCI with the 'Young Women Achiever Award’ in the year 2009.
