Barbara Mori was born February 2, 1978 in Montevideo, Uruguay. At the age of 3, when her Japanese-Uruguayan father and her Mexican mother divorced, Mori moved to Mexico. While working as a waitress at the age of 14, fashion designer Marcos Toledo invited her to work as a model. She later studied acting in El Centro de Estudios de Formación Actoral. Mori first acted in the telenovela, "Al Norte del Corazón".

In 1998, she got her first leading role as Azul in the series "Azul Tequila". A year later she filmed the series "Me Muero por Tí" in Miami. She participated in her first movie in 2000, in the Mexican comedy "Inspiración" opposite 'Arath De La Torre'. Later, she acted in various other telenovelas including, "Amor Descarado" and the high rated Mexican soap "Rubí".
Barbara Mori is an actress and model famous for her appearances in Mexican telenovelas. Her biggest breakthrough role in this market has been as the leading character in the 2004 Televisa remake of the telenovela Rubi.

She was awarded the Best New Actress TVyNovelas Award for "Mirada de mujer". The TVyNovelas Award is the greatest award in Latin American television.

Barbara Mori then appeared in 1998's "Azul Tequila" with her first leading role. Over the next few years she would appear in "Amor descarado", "Me muero por ti", and the comedy film "Inspiracion". Her most successful role, however, was in the popular Mexican telenovela "Rubi", for which she won another TVyNovelas Award. Over the past few years, Barbara Mori's career has been on the rise, and in 2005 she appeared in the extremely popular Latin American film "La mujer de mi hermano" in the leading role. She has also appeared in the 2005 film "Pretendiendo", and contributed a voice acting role in the Spanish release of the computer animated movie "Robots".

Once she realized that models generally have a limited shelf life, Barbara began to think about her future, eventually settling on a possible career as an actress. With that realization, Barbara enrolled in acting classes and began the slow process of auditioning. 

In 1997, Barbara landed her first gig -- a spot on a Mexican soap called Al norte del corazón. Barbara followed that up in ’98 with a starring role on Azul tequila.
